I was born in the wagon of a travellin' show...

The Melbourne Ukulele Festival will host a Festival Market in the Northcote Town Hall, with stalls including:

Aquile Corde Armoniche Strings

A range of Aquila strings will be on sale as a Festival fundraiser, including soprano, concert, tenor and some baritone strings. Aquila takes inspiration from the tradition of the great string-makers of the past to recover the magic of sound that only gut, of all materials, can offer us: the imitation of the human voice. By developing natural gut and synthetic strings with totally innovative acoustic and technological properties, even cheap ukes will sound significantly better restrung with these good strings.

$10 for a set of 4 strings, $15 to get your ukulele restrung for you with a new set of Aquila strings

Aumann Ukuleles

Using Gippsland fiddleback blackwood, Hawaiian koa, USA maple, mahogany, Tasmanian myrtle and Macassar ebony, David handcrafts a range of beautiful ukuleles in all sizes, including bass. If possible, he likes to invite prospective customers to his workshop, at Heathmont, east of Melbourne CBD to choose the exact piece of wood that will become their instrument and to discuss the finer points of the instrument to be made. But whether custom designed, or on show at the festival, his instruments are all unique
