I was born in the wagon of a travellin' show...

The Melbourne Ukulele Festival will host a Festival Market in the Northcote Town Hall, with stalls including:

Aquile Corde Armoniche Strings

A range of Aquila strings will be on sale as a Festival fundraiser, including soprano, concert, tenor and some baritone strings. Aquila takes inspiration from the tradition of the great string-makers of the past to recover the magic of sound that only gut, of all materials, can offer us: the imitation of the human voice. By developing natural gut and synthetic strings with totally innovative acoustic and technological properties, even cheap ukes will sound significantly better restrung with these good strings.

$10 for a set of 4 strings, $15 to get your ukulele restrung for you with a new set of Aquila strings

Aumann Ukuleles

Using Gippsland fiddleback blackwood, Hawaiian koa, USA maple, mahogany, Tasmanian myrtle and Macassar ebony, David handcrafts a range of beautiful ukuleles in all sizes, including bass. If possible, he likes to invite prospective customers to his workshop, at Heathmont, east of Melbourne CBD to choose the exact piece of wood that will become their instrument and to discuss the finer points of the instrument to be made. But whether custom designed, or on show at the festival, his instruments are all unique

DBT ukulele tattooing

Combining his passions of Tattoos and Music, & using his automotive Spray Painter training, Gypsy Spelling combines Pencil & Polyurethane to create his Double Bass Tattoo.

Gypsy utilises all his artistic talents through the process of sanding, applying pencil on Double Bass, Guitar, Ukulele, Banjo or drum, polyurethane to seal, producing depth, definition and a lifetime of unique imagery that cannot be matched by any other previously used method.

Gypsy will demonstrate this at the festival, & maybe you can get your ukulele tattooed while you wait?!

High St Music Preston

High St Music's stall will be carrying a range of essential ukulele accessories, eg cases, chord books, song books, straps, tuners etc. A highlight will be the presence of Mike Jackson, to sell and sign copies of his Uke 'n Play range of books with accompanying CD.

Kala Ukuleles

Kala, distributed by Jacaranda music, will be represented by High St Music Preston , who will showcase a variety of the respected Kala ukuleles, undoubtedly the best-selling ukuleles in the world today. They offer a hugely diverse range of ukuleles ranging from student models to professional and player’s instruments in solid mahogany, flamed maple, Hawaiian Koa and Solid Acacia.

Travel ukes, Arch-tops, acoustic/electric models and the famous Kala U-Bass make the Kala range the widest in today’s ukulele industry.
